All orders are shipped from France via airmail. Once your order is confirmed, we typically dispatch it within 3–6 business days. Please note that if your order is placed during weekends (Saturday and Sunday) or French public holidays, processing and shipping may be delayed.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, Cosme de Paris does not include paper invoices in our packages. You can check your order details in your account order history page or in your order confirmation email.

Important: Since we operate as an overseas business entity, we are unable to issue qualified invoices under Japan’s invoicing system.

Damaged or Incorrect Items

If you receive an item that is incorrect, damaged, or defective, please contact us by email within 3 days of receiving your order and include photos of the item. After verification, we will provide instructions by email regarding the next steps.

Please note that we cannot accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations for items that have been opened or used.

Delivery to Japan – Customs Duties and Import Restrictions

Consumption Tax and Customs Duty Threshold

For personal imports into Japan, if the combined total of the product price and international shipping exceeds JPY 16,667, Japanese consumption tax (10%) will be applied.

Cosmetics are exempt from customs duties; however, food items (such as confectionery, honey, and sweeteners) may be subject to customs duties.

Any customs duties and consumption tax incurred will be the responsibility of the customer.

Cosmetics (including shampoo, conditioner, skincare, and makeup products)
Cosmetic products are not subject to customs duties. However, under Japanese Customs regulations, the maximum allowance for personal imports is 24 items per product category. If this limit is exceeded, customs clearance will not be granted, and the products may be returned or disposed of. Please note that in such cases, refunds cannot be issued.

Honey
Raw honey can be imported for personal use. However, if the total order value exceeds the duty-free allowance (approximately ¥15,500), a 50% customs duty will be applied. In addition, quarantine inspections may take extra time, which can cause delivery delays compared to the usual schedule.

Sugar and Sweeteners (including maple syrup, agave nectar, etc.)
If the total weight of sugar or sweeteners exceeds 1 kg, customs duties and other taxes will apply. Additionally, shipments over 1 kg may require the submission of extra documents, which can result in longer customs clearance times.

Confectionery (Cookies, Chocolate, Snacks, etc.)
Confectionery items can be imported for personal use. However, if the quantity is deemed excessive, customs may consider it for commercial use, which can result in seizure. Confectionery and other food items are generally subject to around 10% customs duty. However, if the calculated duty is less than JPY 1,000, it will be exempt. If the total value of goods plus international shipping exceeds JPY 16,666, confectionery is subject to around 10% customs duty, in addition to Japan’s consumption tax (10%).

Tea (Green Tea, Black Tea, Herbal Tea, etc.)
Green tea (unfermented) is generally duty-free. Black tea may be subject to 3–17% customs duty depending on the type and form. However, if the calculated duty is less than JPY 1,000, it is exempt and therefore not charged. Herbal tea may be treated as a food product depending on its ingredients and can be subject to customs duties. In all cases, if the total value of goods plus international shipping exceeds JPY 16,667, Japan’s consumption tax (10%) will apply.

Customs Clearance
Orders containing the above items may take longer than usual to clear customs. Please also note that, depending on customs decisions, items may be seized or returned without refund.

Returns and Cancellations

Cancellations after shipment, or returns due to long-term absence or refusal of delivery, will incur actual costs (two-way shipping fees, refund handling fees, etc.) plus a cancellation fee of US$10.

In addition, in Japan, if a package is not collected within 7 days after the first delivery attempt, it will automatically be returned to the sender. In cases of return or disposal, no refunds will be provided.

Regardless of whether a delivery notice is left, customers are responsible for checking the tracking information and ensuring timely receipt of their orders.
