Customs duties and taxes

Unless explicitly collected at checkout, applicable import duties, taxes and carrier clearance fees are payable by the recipient. Shipping from France does not necessarily mean that the goods originate in France. Customs determines the applicable classification, value and charges. We cannot guarantee an exemption or a fixed amount. Please check local restrictions on ingredients, quantities, food and cosmetics before ordering; contact us if unsure.

Japan

For qualifying personal-use imports, Japan’s current valuation rule generally uses 60% of the overseas retail price, not 60% of the price plus international freight and insurance. A total customs value of JPY 10,000 or less is generally exempt, with exceptions. If taxable, consumption tax is normally 10%, or 8% for qualifying food and drink excluding alcohol; customs duty depends on the goods and origin. Food is not subject to one universal duty rate. Personal-import quantity and ingredient restrictions may apply.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong generally does not levy customs duty or VAT on ordinary cosmetics and food. Excise goods and controlled products have separate rules; this does not guarantee that every product can be imported.

Singapore

For air or postal imports, GST treatment depends on the seller’s GST registration, the goods and shipment value. A GST-registered overseas seller generally collects GST on eligible low-value goods at purchase. For purchases from a non-registered seller, qualifying non-dutiable shipments with CIF value (goods, insurance and freight) not exceeding S$400 may qualify for import GST relief; above that amount import GST may apply. Check the tax shown at checkout and retain proof of payment to avoid duplicate collection.

South Korea

For qualifying personal-use imports from France, the relevant exemption threshold is generally US$150, not KRW 150,000. Conditions and excluded products apply. Separately identified international freight and insurance can be excluded when assessing the goods-price threshold under the relevant rules; the taxable customs value may include them. When taxable, customs duty depends on classification and origin, and VAT is generally 10%. Supply any identification or clearance details requested through the carrier’s secure process.

Canada

Qualifying imports from France valued at CA$20 or less are generally exempt, with exceptions. Above the threshold, applicable duty and GST/HST/PST may be charged on the relevant taxable value. Preferential treatment under CETA depends on qualifying origin and supporting requirements, not simply dispatch from France. Provincial taxes vary; Nova Scotia’s HST is 14% from 1 April 2025. Carrier clearance or collection fees may be additional.

Taiwan

Qualifying consignments with customs value, including freight and insurance, of NT$2,000 or less are generally exempt. Exceptions apply, including frequent imports: more than 6 exempt importations in January–June or July–December. Above the exemption, duty depends on classification and origin. Business tax is generally 5%, calculated on a base that includes customs value, customs duty and other applicable taxes—not only the goods price. Complete any required identity verification through the carrier’s official process.
